A Cappella
Auditions

Argyle HS Choir Room 

We are thrilled that you are interested in being a member of one our Argyle High School Choral Department A Cappella groups!

 

Whether you are: a) currently a member of Choir, b) live in Argyle ISD and are not a member of Choir, or c) are moving to the district next year, you have the opportunity to audition for one of our two groups, Flight and Remedy.

All audition documents, practice tracks, instructions and forms are located in Google Classroom. Students interested in auditioning for an A Cappella group will need to join the A Cappella Audition Class in Google Classroom.

​Membership and Pre-Audition Requirements:
  1. Students must be enrolled in a Classical Choral ensemble to participate in an A Cappella group.

  2. To be considered for Remedy, you must be willing to enroll in a double block of Choir & A Cappella.

  3. To be considered for Flight, you must be willing to rehearse before school and during mega lunch 3x a week.

  4. Students and their Parent/Guardian must each fill out the A Cappella Contract Acknowledgement Form (located on the Google Classroom Page) before Tuesday night, April 30th at 11:59PM.

  5. All Students must complete the Song Submission 2024-2025 using FlipGrid (located on the Google Classroom Page) before Tuesday night, April 30th at 11:59PM.

    1. ​Select three songs ( one up-tempo song, one ballad, and one strong closer) that are good solo selections for you. Look at pop music from a variety of decades and genres!

    2. Using this Flipgrid, submit three videos of you performing each of the songs you selected. You will perform only a verse and a chorus for each song.

    3. Caption each video with the title of the song and the original artist (i.e. "Both Sides Now - Joni Mitchell")

Audition Instructions
​May 1st, 2024:

All students will meet in the AHS choir room for Vocal Solo and Vocal Percussion Auditions.

 

Vocal Solo Auditions

  • Please prepare 45-60 seconds of a song from any contemporary style of music.

  • No classical, musical theater, or foreign language songs are allowed.

  • The solo needs to be performed from memory and sung a cappella (no backing tracks or piano).

Vocal Percussion Auditions

  • These auditions are completely optional. If you would like to be considered for VP in Remedy of Flight, please be prepared to beat box and demonstrate three different kinds of patterns or grooves. 

  • Vocal Percussionists are required to learn one of the Vocal Parts as well. Please be prepared to sing and beatbox.

  • Beginner Vocal Percussionists are HIGHLY recommended to try out! Very few people have experience doing this so please do not be afraid to step up in auditions.

 

​May 2nd, 2024:

All students will meet in the AHS choir room for Choreography, Vocal Parts, and Vocal Percussion Auditions.

 

Choreography Auditions

  • To Prepare:

    • Click on the Choreography Teaching & Demo Videos located in the Google Classroom Folder.

    • Learn the routine exactly as it is shown to you in the video.

  • Day of Audition:

    • On the day of auditions will we go over the routine together in person

    • You need to hold something that resembles a mic (mic, water bottle, phone, hairbrush, etc)

    • You will also need to mouth the words to the song as if you are singing (just the melody of the song)

    • We will perform the routine together and then in groups of 3-5

    • Everyone will have the chance to do the routine 2-3 times. 

      • Mr. Ramos will assign a number to each run-through. You will select your best  run-through for submission.

Vocal Parts Auditions

  • To Prepare:

    • All students will also learn the a cappella arrangement of "Everglow" as recorded by Remedy A Cappella.

    • Use the sheet music and tracks located in Google Classroom to learn the arrangement.

    • All students need to learn the voice that best fits their range.

  • Day of Audition:

    • Will we go over the arrangement together in person a few times to make sure everyone is on the same page.

    • The day of auditions, students will be asked to sing in at least 3 different groups of 8 singers at a time, with only one person on each part.

      • Mr. Ramos will assign a number to each run-through. You will select your best  run-through for submission.
